It was 1998, it was spring, and it was a great time to be a kid! The boy and his friend watched their kite soar gracefully above them in the sky over the large open field. The boy was eleven, and although they were a grade apart in school, they were the best of buddies and did everything together. It was getting late, and the two friends decided it was time to go.The path out of the field went by an old apple tree, and for the past week or so they had been watching a large yellow caterpillar who had made his home on one of the branches, They didn’t see the caterpillar today. Instead they noticed a large, grey, lifeless looking cocoon, and they wondered if their yellow friend had died. But it was getting very late, and the boy’s friend said his stomach hurt, probably from hunger, so they didn’t wonder about it too long, and continued their walk home.
The next day, they went to the field again. And again, they saw the cocoon, instead of the caterpillar. So, they decided to ask the cocoon where the caterpillar had went. 'Don't u know? I'm the evolution of the caterpillar? Indeed, no one noticed me. I’m lonely, without family love and concern." Just in a few seconds, the cocoon turned into a beautiful butterfly and flew away. Only a few simple sentences, but both the boys learned something. Something precious, yet meaningful!
From that day onwards, they learn to appreciate their friendship. They play games together, read books and many more things. However, when they were in the age of 16, both of them fell in love to the same girl. She was pretty, smart, caring, full of joy....all boys’ desire. She met Ryan and Dylan in school, in the library. Sharon was just like a star to them. She seemed to be so near, yet unreachable.
However, all seems never remained seems. One day, at the library, she accidentally bumped into Ryan and Dylan. Both of them were shocked but deep in their hearts, they were overjoyed to bump into Sharon. She smiled nicely, apologised and helped both of them to pick up the books which had fallen on to the ground. The scent of her hair attracted both Ryan and Dylan when a breeze blew gently. Walking out the library gracefully, her figure had now been in their minds.
One night, Ryan sms Sharon to date with him on the coming Monday while Dylan make appointment with her at the same time. Sharon knew something amiss. Something bad would happen. She knew that no matter who she chose, the other will get hurt. But she had promised Ryan who called her first. Staring on the message Dylan sent for ages, she was stunned, knows nothing to do next. She knew that she had to make a choice, love is selfish, never to be rational. And so, she had decided, she took up the phone and called......"tutt...tutt....." there was no answer........
She closed the phone. She closed her eyes and let her mind and heart think. She knew, its him, its Ryan she loved. But she couldn't bare to let both Ryan and Dylan to fight because of her. So, she called Dylan again. Finally, he picked up. Sharon told him the venue and time to meet. The day came. The moment Ryan reached, Dylan reached at the same time. Shocked to see Dylan was there, Ryan was speechless. Sharon did nothing but smiled and led them into the restaurant. They sat down and Sharon left after telling them a few sentences. "Both of you are good, but I'll never want to see the friendship between you two to destroy because of me. I'll never tell who I love, but do not lose this precious friendship because of me."
10 years later, Ryan had become a doctor, Dylan had become a lawyer and Sharon had become pharmacist. One day they met at Ah Soo & Pei Shopping Complex. They smiled to each other and Ryan asked Sharon straightly."Are u ready to tell us who have you chosen?"
Suddenly, another man came to them. He’s tall, handsome and smartly dress. "Dear, are they your friends?" the guy asked. After 10 years of waiting, Sharon had chosen to give up both of them. She's married to this tall, handsome guy, named Patrick. Both of them were happy and they are now the parents of two kids.
In the end, Sharon had chosen to tell the truth."Actually last time the person that I like is Ryan. (Now her hand put on Patrick's hand)But now I already has my own family. I like them especially Shally and Dean. I really hope both of you can find your own happiness"
